Tonbridge Castle
Heritage
A project to investigate and replace turn coated stainless steel roof at Tonbridge Castle. Addressing historic leaks and revising ventilated gutter design within tightly constrained parameters relating to the castle’s Scheduled Ancient Monument designation and surrounding conservation area.
To undertake work to the roof, a major logistical operation was required including a full bespoke scaffold system and temporary roof which needed to be installed in a short time scale to allow for re-opening in summer.
The project saw new a new oak door to the west turret to address pigeon incursions and a fall-restraint system to allow safe access across the roof for maintenance. LED Lighting was also installed into the Great Hall in order to facilitate the use of the castle for weddings.
